Director and writer James Gunn, the man behind Suicide Squad 2: Mission Breakout and the follow-up series Peacemaker, has made a surprising revelation: John Cena was not his original choice for the role of Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker.<\/p>\n
During an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Gunn revealed that he originally wrote the role for Dave Bautista, his longtime collaborator from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, in which Bautista played Drax the Destroyer.<\/p>\n
“I wrote the character for him, and we offered him the role,” Gunn explained. “But it was a two-picture deal, and we weren’t paying that much, so he had to go where the pay was higher.”<\/p>\n
Bautista was thus forced to turn down the role due to scheduling conflicts and financial commitments. This allowed James Gunn to turn his attention to another wrestling star: John Cena.<\/p>\n
Gunn noted that he was a fan of Cena’s acting. Their personal meeting finally convinced the director. “We met, talked and instantly became friends,” Gunn recalls. “Since then, I’ve worked with him more than any other actor.
